The police in the South Kyoga region are investigating the killing of Special Police Constable (SPC) Ivan Eibu, along with four others injured at the Olagara landing site in Serere district. The incident occurred on Feb 2, 2026, at around 10:00 PM. According to Stephen Mukombe, South Kyoga regional police spokesperson, Eibu was killed during an attempt to arrest Bashir Etidau, a 42-year-old resident of Pokor B village, Kamasala parish, Kateta sub-county, Serere district.

The police were acting on a murder case, designated CRB-003/2026, when Etidau raised an alarm that drew a crowd. In the ensuing chaos, he escaped arrest. Mukombe added, “He is again charged for a new suspected murder case with CRB-072/2026.” The confrontation left SPC Eibu dead and four others injured, including Officer in Charge (OC) surgeon Robert Ocana and three other officers. They are receiving treatment at Serere Health Center IV.

Mukombe said ten suspects have been arrested to assist with the ongoing investigation. Public unrest followed the incident, destroying two motorcycles—one with registration UP 6138 and a Bajaj—which were burnt beyond recognition.

Mukombe described the event as unusual for the region, stating, “The region has been quiet, and this is the first of its kind in the region.” He urged the community to remain calm and cooperate with authorities to restore peace and security.

The body of SPC Ivan Eibu has been taken to Serere Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.
