The National Unity Platform-NUP has opened a regional office in Mbarara City ahead of the 2026 general election.
The offices located at Independence Park will serve the Ankole, Kigezi, Tooro and Rwenzori regions. They were opened on Friday by the Party President and Presidential flagbearer, Robert Kyagulanyi.
Kyagulanyi told party supporters that the party purchased the land and built the offices in secrecy for fear of sabotage from security agencies or some party members. “We bought this land, started construction, and have unveiled the offices without security or even some of our members knowing,” Kyagulanyi said.
Joel Senyonyi, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, said that bringing the officer to the people is an indication of the party’s support in the region.
The NUP Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya said that the land on which the Mbarara regional offices sit was acquired in 2024 and that the party has the land title.
The Mbarara Regional office is the second regional office after the one opened in Iganga district.
Kyagulanyi. said that there are plans to open another regional office in Northern Uganda.
