Residents of Kihalimu-Kyaminyoku, and Katadoba cells in Central division, Kasese Municipality have decried the poor state of the roads in the area.
They say most of the roads are in a deplorable state, riddled with gullies and pot holes as a result of poor water drainage system.
Some of the roads have not been rehabilitated in a long time, with locals saying its inconveniencing and posing a serious accident and health risk to the users.
The locals are appealing to the political leaders and those seeking political office in forthcoming elections to consider reconstructing the municipality roads.
Jolly kahyana, one of the resident says whenever it rains, some of the gullies are flooded with water, making the roads impassable even for pedestrians.
He says teh gullies carrying water are a risk to households close to the roads.
Amis Muhesi says many of the access roads out of the town centre are in a terrible state and urgent need of either repair or reconstruction. He adds that the weak bridges connecting different villages are a risk to young children going to school.
Wesley Mumbere, says they have been frustrated by the inactive local leaders and a section of them opted to desilt water channels blocked by sand, stones, and tree trunks.
Hamada Ngima, LC 1 Kihalimu Kyaminyoku, issued a warning to residents about the dangers of picking sand from the roads, which is causing the gully expansion.
Kasese Municipality Mayor, Chance Kahindo, says he has visited the areas with bad roads and pledged to address the issues. He has promised to deal with the gullies and remove the debris blocking culverts.
Kahindo also assured residents that the government will work on constructing a bridge connecting the two villages in the third quarter, starting in December.
He asked residents to be patient as the government works to resolve these long-standing issues.
