An Independent candidate in the Bushenyi district Woman MP Parliament race, Vianah Kemigisha Kashaya, was on Friday night attacked by unknown panga-wielding assailants.
She was attacked in the middle of Friday night as she headed home right at her gate in Andrews cell, Mbarara City North division.
Kemigisha says that she was attacked by about six men who demanded to know her secrets of the race to parliament that are on her phone, which was taken.
“I called my girl to open for me the gate, it was around 1:00 am in the middle of the night, as I was waiting, I saw a man come to with a panga, asking me for secrets on my phone, he wielded the panga at me, but luckily enough I went down in the car then he hit the door of my car, i think that saved me,” She narrated.
Kemigisha is currently receiving medical attention at Western Medical and Maternity Center.
When contacted, the Rwizi region Police Spokesperson, Samson Kasasira, confirms the incident, saying that police have started the investigations.
“I don’t have much details now, but I can confirm the incident. I will get back to you with details; however, our team has started investigating”.
Denis Twahika, the Independent Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality Member of Parliament Independent candidate condemned the act of attack, noting that security forces should investigate and bring the perpetrators to book.
“This must have been a very ‘friendly’ attack, and for sure, security needs to get interested in this matter. If indeed the Woman MP candidate was targeted, security must bring those attackers before the courts of law, politics of violence must be condemned”.
Moses Mugabirwe, a resident of Andrews cell, asked police to quickly investigate the attack to find out whether the attack was politically motivated or if it was carried out by thieves thinking that she had campaign money.
