Moroto district is now fully prepared for the general elections scheduled for next week, January 15th, with the successful receipt of all polling materials.

The final batch, including 118 ballot boxes, arrived at the Moroto district electoral commission office on Saturday morning.

Esther Immaculate Ajwang, the District Election Administrator for Moroto, confirmed the receipt of all materials in good condition.

She stated that these are the last items to be distributed to the various polling stations across the district.

Ajwang outlined a swift logistical plan stating that the materials will be loaded onto trucks by 4:00 AM on Election Day, aiming for all boxes to reach polling stations by 6:00 AM, with voting commencing promptly at 7:00 AM.

She urged all polling officers to maintain strict timeliness to ensure voters can cast their ballots early, ideally concluding the process by 4:00 PM.

Ajwang encouraged voters to leave the polling station after casting their vote and return only for the counting to avoid overcrowding.

Ajwang expressed confidence that the election will be “totally free and fair, highlighting that the use of Biometric Voter Verification Kits (BVVKs) will be instrumental in addressing electoral irregularities.

She also mentioned special transport arrangements for hard-to-reach areas with poor road networks. She noted that the number of registered voters per polling center has been reduced to between 100 and 500 to better manage time.

Benon Kwikiriza, the Moroto Resident District Commissioner, corroborated the safe arrival of the polling materials, noting that they were sealed and verified by all stakeholders, confirming their integrity.

Kwikiriza also reported that security has been significantly increased at the electoral commission office, with premises now restricted.

Kwikiriza said that only electoral staff will be granted access after seeking permission from security personnel. He reiterated that all transport vehicles are ready to ensure the timely delivery of voting materials.

Moroto district comprises a total of 118 polling stations, distributed as follows: Katikekile sub-county has 11, North Division has 11, Nadunget Town Council has 6, Lotisan sub-county has 8, Rupa sub-county has 24, Nadunget sub-county has 17, Loputuk sub-county has 15, Tapac sub-county has 14, and South Division has 12.
