Muntu Urges Western Uganda to Vote Out Museveni to Avoid Backlash

Gregory Mugisha Muntu, the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate, has warned that actions taken under the government of incumbent President Yoweri Museveni could backfire on all people from western Uganda if the regime were to fall suddenly. Muntu made the warning on Friday while campaigning in Kabale District.

He suggested that the people of Western Uganda can also contribute to a peaceful regime change if they massively vote against President Museveni in the January Presidential election

He said Museveni’s government has committed many wrong actions against Ugandans, including people from the western region, although some residents fail to recognize this. As a result, Westerners are often generalized as supporters of wrongdoing.

Muntu noted that similar situations have occurred under past regimes. He cited the case of Brigadier Charles Arube from the West Nile region, who served as Chief of Staff during former President Idi Amin’s regime and reportedly went missing in 1974 after allegedly planning a coup.

Arube was reportedly buried in Jinja Municipality. According to Muntu, many people also suffered revenge attacks after the fall of former President Milton Obote’s government due to wrong actions committed during his time in power.

Muntu urged people from the western region to vote out Museveni as a way of signaling to the rest of the country that they do not support wrongdoing against Ugandans.

He said westerners should demonstrate through voting that Museveni’s actions are not carried out on their behalf.

Muntu warned that failure to do so could lead to consequences, urging people to pray for a smooth leadership transition to avoid retaliation.

Muntu also said Museveni is now embarrassed because he has failed to eliminate corruption, which has hindered development in Uganda. He promised to boost the tourism sector in the Kigezi region if elected president.

Meanwhile, Hillary Gumisiriza Mwebesa, the Speaker for Northern Division in Kabale Municipality, and Gideon Tumwesigye supported Muntu’s views, saying Museveni cannot fight corruption because he is the one promoting it.

They urged Muntu to prioritize the fight against corruption, create employment opportunities for Ugandans, and improve government services, particularly in the health and education sectors.
