Butambala MP Muwanga Kivumbi has said that there is nothing special about Mathias Mpuuga because he isn’t the first or the only political comrade he has personally sacrificed, betrayed and turned against.
Muwanga told BBS TV listeners at Mengo on Monday that he has always sacrificed and turned against friends and political allies, each time he realises they are becoming a problem to the anti-Museveni struggle.
He gave the example of JB Kawanga, an old friend and long time mentor, who he turned against and fought out of parliament in 2011.
He said that as Suubi members they realized that Kawanga had fallen in bed with Norbert Mao and was no longer serving genuine opposition interests. He said he backed Mpuuga who became the new Masaka municipality MP in 2011. Kawanga had been there for many years and that was the end of his politics in Masaka.
Muwanga who is leading the Kyagulanyi assignment to remove Mpuuga and put there Makerere bursar Sebiina Gyavira, said that in 2020, he turned against DP treasurer Mary Babirye Kabanda when she became a problem by refusing to join NUP. She chose to remain with Mao in DP, which Muwanga considered to have become a branch of the NRM.
He told the listeners on BBS on Monday that he drove to Masaka and spent a whole night trying to persuade Kabanda to abandon DP and join NUP but she refused.
She was then the incumbent woman MP for Masaka district and she was defeated by Juliet Kakande, who Muwanga says was fronted by Mpuuga.
He says Mpuuga, who claims to be in favour of preservation of seasoned ganda politicians, led them in destroying Kabanda in 2021 simply because she had refused to join NUP.
Muwanga said that Kabanda, who had even been Kabaka’s official at Mengo, had done a lot for him as a person more than what Mpuuga has ever done for him.
He says that using her NGO, Kabanda got for him funders from Germany and US who built and equipped one of the best primary schools in his constituency, which increased his popularity in Butambala.
But that didn’t stop him from turning against her the moment she became a problem to the struggle by refusing to denounce Mao and join NUP.
He says he expects Mpuuga to understand that there is no way he can continue standing with him after it became clear that he doesn’t represent the future millions of young Ugandans want to see, anymore.
He explained that time has come for Mpuuga to realize that now is the time for him to be ejected from the politics of Masaka as was the case for JB Kawanga in 2011, and for Babirye Kabanda in 2021.
Muwanga also denied demeaning the Kabaka in his last week video in Masaka and instead advised Mpuuga and his DF officials (he called them a cabal) to concentrate on looking for their own votes instead of hiding behind the name of the Kabaka, Katikkiro Mayiga and the entire Mengo establishment, in order to demonize NUP while portraying its leader Kyagulanyi as Buganda’s enemy.
Muwanga, who never condemned Lumbuye, councillor Faridah Nakabugo and other NUP officials who have been decampaigning enkuuka and Kabaka’s birthday marathon, said the Kabaka is too big to have his name dragged in petty DF politics. He also said he is currently the biggest and most powerful Muganda politician after Bobi Wine, whether haters like Mpuuga like it or not.
“I’m a big man now by virtue of being PAC chairman, Buganda Caucus chairman and deputy president for NUP. Thats the truth whether DF members like it or not,” he bragged. He also accused the moderator Seruwooza Joseph of being at Mengo not because he loves the Kabaka very much but because of the good salary he earns as a BBS presenter.
