The National Unity Platform presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi, criticised the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, for keeping quiet about several attacks by security at his campaign rallies and trails.

Kyagulanyi said this shortly after his convoy was blocked by the police along the Mbarara- Ibanda Road as he headed to Mbarara District for his final rally at Rubindi playground. A number of his supporters and his press team were arrested.

Kyagulanyi, who had just finished his rally at Mbarara High School Playground in Kiyanja, Mbarara City, found a roadblock a few miles after Nyakisharara.

Kyagulanyi said that he has written several letters informing Justice Byabakama of the several attacks by security personnel and the RDCs, but he has yet to respond.

Kyagulanyi said that more than 100 of his members were arrested, and others were injured.

“We are going to go back and look around ourselves to identify who is available and who has been arrested, so by tomorrow we shall give a clear picture,” he said.

He narrated that the security are doing all that to deter them from reaching out to their supporters, noting that they will not stop but keep moving.

Deus Mugume, a NUP supporter, said that they were blocked because the security feared that the NUP candidate would again be forced by the mob to get into the Mbarara city streets.

He said that he saw a one Jamusidu being arrested by the Counter terrorism police and taken into a drone van.

Police, in a statement, confirmed making several arrests in Mbarara district targeting individuals with criminal records, including assaulting officers, destroying government property, and those who obstructing officers on duty were also arrested.

Earlier in the day, Kyagulanyi asked the people of Mbarara City to vote for the National Unity Platform candidates at all levels to bring change to the country.

He said Museveni and his regime have spread tribalism among regions, noting that when elected into power, he will create a united country.

“Our party name has the U in the middle standing for unity, we shall unite every one of us across the country, yes, we also have some people who are tribalistic in Buganda attaching themselves to the Buganda kingdom, and even here in Ankole, there are a few we shall stop that in the new Uganda”. He said.

He said that once voted into the first office, he will create 10 million jobs for the youth using the money that is being stolen by the corrupt people in the current leadership.

Lewsi Rubogoya, the Secretary General of the party, condemned people who are using social media channels like TikTok to spread false information about NUP campaign rallies.

“We are seeing people on TikTok telling lies that we shall not be campaigning in Ankole, and others, we shall not even reach any campaign ground. I want to thank you, the people of Mbarara City, you have set a record,” He said

Kyagulanyi is scheduled to hold two rallies tomorrow (Saturday) in Rwampara and Ntungamo districts.
