The Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court ordered the remand of a 27-year-old businessman to Luzira prison for forging a letter purportedly written and signed by President Yoweri Museveni.
Nicholas Male, a resident of Nazibwa Zone in Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District, on Thursday evening appeared before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi, where he denied four charges of forgery and uttering false documents.
Prosecution told the court that on August 15, 2025, while in Kampala City, Male allegedly forged a letter addressed to the Minister of Works and Transport and falsely claimed it had been authored by the President of Uganda.
It is further alleged that on September 18, 2025, Male presented the same forged document to officials at the Ministry of Works and Transport on Old Port Bell Road and later at Nation Oil Distributors Limited in Ndeeba, knowing it was not genuine.
According to the charge sheet, the document in question claimed that President Museveni had directed the Minister of Works and Transport to renew Nation Oil Distributors Limited’s contract to manage the MV Kalangala ferry for another 15 years, a statement the prosecution says was entirely fabricated.
Records before the Court indicate that Male had earlier approached the company’s Director, introducing himself as an employee of the Office of the Prime Minister and claiming he could influence the renewal of the MV Kalangala management contract through his alleged government connections.
Magistrate Kayizzi ordered that Male be remanded to Luzira Prison until November 17, 2025, when his bail application will be considered. If found guilty, he faces up to seven years in prison.
