Abdul Mudooko, a teacher at Ibun Buz Primary School in Bugabwe Cell, Nakigo Sub-County, Iganga District, is in police custody for his alleged involvement in examination malpractice. Police say Mudooko circulated the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) papers on social media platforms, including Telegram and WhatsApp, to several school heads before the exams began.

Whistleblowers tipped off authorities, prompting a swift investigation. Michael Kasadha, the Busoga East Police spokesperson, confirmed that intelligence teams traced the soft copies of the exam papers to Mudooko, whose social media accounts were registered in his name. “He was found at his home actively sharing examination papers with multiple individuals,” Kasadha said.

During a search of Mudooko’s residence, police recovered several exam papers in both hard and soft copy, which are now key exhibits. Mudooko is currently detained at Iganga Central Police Station, facing charges of examination malpractice and uttering false documents.

Kasadha urged parents and candidates to refrain from attempting to cheat, emphasizing that exam questions reflect the topics covered in the curriculum and can be successfully tackled through proper preparation.

Meanwhile, Eria Kisambira, the Jinja District Education Officer, reported that the first day of PLE proceeded peacefully. He commended headteachers for preparing learners and guiding parents, which he said has helped reduce the temptation to engage in malpractice.
