In the last-minute change of heart, the NUP president Kyagulanyi has this Monday late afternoon ordered the deletion of Joyce Bagala from the list of MP flag bearers.
Insiders say that in Bagala’s name, 28-year-old film star Proscovia Nabbosa Mukisa Kenisha has been put on the list and given the ticket. This means she will be the one to face off with minister Judith Nabakooba who is determined to bounce back.
Bagala, whose sins had been forgiven after kneeling and repenting her sins inside Kyagulanyi’s office, will most likely be standing as a NUP-leaning independent, which will split the opposition vote, deepen divisions and thereby increase NRM candidate Judith Nabakooba’s chances.
This is a developing story we intend to keep updating as leaks continue to emerge from the ongoing final consultations which are being attended by key top NUP decision makers who have what it takes to determine who gets the ticket.
Other emerging leaks indicate that Makerere law student Suzanna Namata has been fronted to compete with minister Asha Sekindi for Kalungu woman MP seat which NUP badly wants to capture.
A decision is yet to be taken between lawyer Obed Nasser Mudiobole formerly of FDC and mayor Bamu Lulenzi for Iganga municipality MP seat. Nasser stands higher chances than Lulenzi.
For Twaha Kagabo’s Bukoto south in Lwengo, Erias Lukwago’s KCCA minister Hakim Kizza is leading though some party bosses are still finding it hard to sacrifice long-suffering Julius Ssentamu who began daring to oppose NRM in Bukoto Lwengo as early as 2012 when the ruling party was still very strong in that part of Masaka.
For Mityana north, Teacher Tomusange who Kyagulanyi admires for his militancy is comfortably ahead of Dr. Gordon Sematiko an old fox whose low energy Kavule despises and Bagala’s ally Bishop Tomusange who Kavule insiders claim to be a state agent.
