Friday, 19th September 2025, marked a remarkable day for the 1st Deputy Premier, Rebecca Kadaga, as thousands of supporters lined roads across Jinja and Kamuli districts, expressing loyalty and admiration for her decades of service to the Busoga sub-region.

Crowds gathered from the Nile Stage in Buikwe District through to the Nile Bridge, with another group stationed at Umbercoat Roundabout, eagerly awaiting her mini-address to supporters in Jinja city.

Kadaga arrived at Umbercoat Roundabout around 11:30 am, but traversing a one-kilometer stretch to the Agricultural Show Grounds took two hours and ten minutes. She addressed the Jinja crowd for about ten minutes before continuing to a major rally in Kamuli District.

During her brief address, Kadaga lamented how officials from Busoga Kingdom, an institution she helped establish after a six-year wait without a substantive Kyabazinga, have undermined development efforts in the sub-region. She described their actions as prioritizing endless disputes over meaningful community engagement.

Kadaga’s procession continued from the Agricultural Show Grounds at 1:55 pm, covering a three-kilometer stretch to the Railway Museum in over two hours. As her convoy passed Mailo-Mbili Roundabout and the Jinja-Kamuli Road, crowds swelled, chanting and playing drums and other cultural instruments in celebration.

Supporters continued to welcome her in Mafubira, Namulesa, Mutai, Buwenge, Nawanyago, and Budhumbula, before she finally entered Kamuli town, paralyzing traffic due to the sheer numbers.

Residents praised Kadaga for her long-standing contributions to Busoga. Sylvia Kyebambe, 72, described her as a hero whose work for the people remains evident despite her waning political influence.

Robinah Nabwire, a businesswoman from Bugiri, recounted benefiting from Kadaga’s bursary scheme as a teenage mother, which enabled her to complete her education and establish a business.

Kadaga arrived at Kamuli Municipality Grounds around 7:00 pm to address the supporters. She accused Busoga Kingdom’s Premier, Joseph Muvawala, of leading what she termed a group of selfish individuals who misrepresented her before President Yoweri Museveni, prioritizing rhetoric over regional development.

She noted that while President Museveni had pledged to return Busoga Kingdom property seized during Milton Obote’s regime, officials have yet to provide supporting documents, instead focusing on criticizing her.

Despite these challenges, Kadaga reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and to serving the people of Busoga. She pledged to continue her work with dedication, undeterred by opposition or sabotage.

The event was also attended by Mohammed Lubega, Chairman of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and Busoga Kingdom 1st Deputy Premier. Lubega praised Kadaga as a unifying figure whose contributions are visible across all districts of the sub-region, noting that her dedication often comes at the expense of personal time with her family.
