New Media Center Boss Deployed As Opondo Prepares to Hand Over

By KT Reporter

Obed Katureebe, a veteran media practitioner in Kampala has been deployed to serve as director for Uganda media center, a position which Ofwono Opondo occupied for more than 10 years.

He is for now in acting capacity and there are high chances to get confirmed to become substantive.

Media center is part of both the state house and the ministry of information and national guidance. Like his former boss Opondo, Katureebe is an active defender of government through both newspaper articles and TV/radio appearances.

Opondo will be showing up on Monday to hand over office to Katureebe Obed as he goes to campaign for MP position representing older persons of eastern Uganda.

Katureebe should be able to hit the ground running having served under Opondo for many years.

One of the problems the new boss will be facing is inheriting a poorly funded entity of government where they get nothing beyond staff salaries.

MPs recently discovered that the media center was so broke and neglected by the president to the extent of not being able to have toilet papers and water to maintain functional toilet facilities.

Guests and big people working at the media center have to keep running to nearby Serena hotel to be able to ease themselves whenever nature calls.

Media center used to be loaded those days when it was still under president’s office but things have been hot for staff since they were transferred to the ministry of information and national guidance. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
