The newly elected National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson for Pader District, Lowila CD Oketayot, has called for unity and inclusion among all party leaders following her swearing-in on May 31, 2025. Speaking at the ceremony held at Perfect View Hotel, Lowila emphasized that both outgoing and incoming leaders must collaborate with a shared vision to strengthen the party ahead of the upcoming elections.
The ceremony followed the district party elections held on May 6th, 2025, at the Mayor’s Garden in Pader Town Council. It was attended by key officials, including Assistant Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), the Assistant District Internal Security Officer (DISO), the NRM Office Administrator, outgoing party officials, and the newly elected executives.
Lowila, a former Woman Member of Parliament for Pader District, secured the chairperson seat with 589 votes, defeating her rival George Obwoya Oyat who polled 211 votes. She pledged a participatory and inclusive leadership style. “Working for the party is voluntary and requires self-sacrifice fueled by love for the party,” she said, urging all party members to speak with one voice and promote accountability.
To foster party cohesion, Lowila announced plans to meet all elected leaders and those who lost in the elections to ensure collective participation in steering the party forward.
Outgoing NRM District Vice Chairperson Florence Lakomekech, who is now the newly elected Publicity Secretary for the Entrepreneurs’ League, urged the new leadership to broaden party activities and mobilize support in preparation for the party primaries and general elections.
Assistant RDC Kennedy Bob Otema congratulated the new executives and called for collaboration with the district administration to improve service delivery. He also emphasized the need to welcome newly posted district officials and reminded leaders that party work is voluntary, requiring strong grassroots mobilization.
The RDC’s office also appealed for reconciliation following any election-related disputes and encouraged voters to select competent leaders for the next five years. Meanwhile, the nomination and expression of interest process for NRM aspirants seeking parliamentary seats is set to begin on Monday, June 2, 2025, and will run until June 15, 2025.
The official nomination of candidates will take place between June 16 and June 30, followed by open joint campaigns from July 1 to July 14. Polling day for the NRM parliamentary primaries is scheduled for July 16, 2025-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
