Mao beaten at DP Delegates Conference

By KT Reporter

DP president Norbert Mao was on Friday evening beaten like chicken thief as he arrived for the party’s national delegates conference in Mbarara Ruti. Mao was joining other contenders for DP NEC positions in Mbarara.

It was a few minutes past 5pm when Mao arrived driving in an open roof vehicle. Majestically waving his Milton Obote-like walking stick, Mao was welcomed and received with boos by hundreds of delegates who accused him of leading DP for too long.

They heckled and accused him of doing nothing except selling DP to president Museven and his brother Salim Saleh. The delegates threw empty bottles, buveeras and other dirty rotten things at the justice minister forcing him to flee.

He quickly moved away from the angry delegates who also accused his man Siranda of failing to give them food. Some elderly delegates claimed to have taken three days without food having left their homes on Wednesday.

Mao’s rivals Sebamaka and Lulume Bayiga wa Mwenge had come earlier and spent the whole day campaigning among delegates and telling them how Mao was a terrible leader. They accused Mao of being a dictator who was planted to kill DP and hand the scrap to the president and his NRM.

Siranda said as the chief organizer of the conference he can not tolerate hooliganism by non delegates who he said had been ferried to Mbarara by Lulume and Sebamala.

He promised to work with police to identify all the trouble causers who assaulted Mao and have them arrested whether Lulume and Sebamala like it or not.

The beating of Mao at his own meeting shows that a large number of DPs are unhappy and won’t be intimidated by the government security forces who Lulume and Sebamala say are backing Mao.

The shouting delegates advised Mao to leave DP issues alone and take himself and his family to NRM so that those remaining behind can have a chance to rebuild. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
