The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party elections for sub-county and town councils concluded peacefully on Friday in Luwero and Nakaseke districts. The elected parish-level party leaders convened to elect representatives for sub-county and town council positions.

David Kamugisha, the NRM Registrar for Luwero District, said the elections commenced by 10:00 a.m. across all designated areas. By the afternoon, voting had ended without any reported incidents. Kamugisha attributed the peaceful process to proactive security measures, including identifying potential hotspots like Wobulenzi Town, where the Police and UPDF deployed heavily to avert clashes among rival supporters.

In Nakaseke District, NRM District Registrar Paul Tandeka reported minor tensions earlier in the day in Nakaseke and Ngoma town councils. Supporters had attempted to disrupt the polls, protesting the decision to hold elections for party leagues before mainstream structures.

Tandeka said the issue was quickly resolved after the registrars agreed to reverse the order, first conducting the mainstream elections, followed by league polls. He noted that, unlike the earlier village-level elections that were marred by protests over missing names, the sub-county and town council elections ended without further incident.

In Butalangu Town Council, David Ngobi was elected as NRM Town Council Chairperson. In Kiwoko Town Council, Godfrey Ssenyondo was elected unopposed as the NRM Chairperson for Kito Sub-county, while Steven Ssentongo defeated his uncle, George William Baganda Nswa, for the Kiwoko Chairperson seat. Baganda Nswa had served in the position for the past 15 years. Baganda Nswa blamed his defeat on voter intimidation:

In most areas, candidates were elected unopposed after voters opted for dialogue before voting. Kyofatogabye Kabuye, the State Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs, was elected unopposed as the NRM Vice Chairman for Kito Sub-county. He attributed the peaceful nature of the elections to the limited number of eligible voters, in contrast to the village-level elections that drew even non-registered voters.
