A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier has been arrested for allegedly killing his partner.
According to UPDF Acholpii 5th Infantry Division Public Information Officer Capt. Edrin Mawanda, Corporal Moses Ojuru, 55, is accused of allegedly murdering Lilian Alanyo, 32, with whom they have been cohabiting. Mawanda says that the incident happened on Thursday, in Akemokoch village, near the Acholpii 5th Infantry Division barracks in Pader District. He added that Ojuru is currently being held in military detention as investigations proceed.
Preliminary findings indicate that the couple got into a dispute inside their home.
The incident reportedly came to light after the deceased’s seven-year-old daughter told authorities she had heard her mother crying for help during the night, before Alanyo was found dead the following morning.
Jackson Bogere, the Pader District Police Commander, said that they are investigating the matter to establish what led to the incident.
According to police crime statistics, Uganda registered 4,329 homicide cases in 2024, reflecting a 1.9% increase from 4,248 cases reported in 2023-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
