Leaders of Emyooga SACCOs in Pakwach District are demanding a special meeting to address persistent challenges affecting the program.

The call was made during an exchange visit organised by the Microfinance Support Centre (MSC), which brought together outstanding Emyooga representatives from Kabarole, Masaka, Serere, Kyegegwa, and other districts to share insights on mindset change, record keeping, marketing, savings, loan management, and general governance. At least five members from each of the 18 Emyooga clusters in Pakwach attended.

Hellen Ajaruva, Chairperson of the Women Entrepreneurs Emyooga SACCO, one of the best-performing groups with 158 active members, revealed that they have disbursed loans worth 19.5 million Shillings and currently have 24 million in their account. She projects the SACCO will reach 40 million Shillings by the end of June.

Sylvia Nankuna, General Secretary of the Northern State Division Produce Dealers Emyooga SACCO, advised SACCOs to diversify by establishing small enterprises to reduce overreliance on loans.

Nankuna suggested that Sacco members can choose an enterprise to produce, or add value to available raw products, to earn more money daily.

Ronald Waiswa, MSC Zonal Manager for West Nile, stressed the need for regular audits, annual general meetings, and quarterly reviews to ensure SACCOs remain on track.

Dan Kanuru Mwesigwa, from the Emyooga Secretariat, urged SACCOs to step up mobilisation efforts to attract more members and boost capital, which will increase savings from interests from borrowings and shares.

Mwesigwa also advised Saccos whose accounts have been dormant for some time to get support from the commercial officer to revive them-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
