The Management Science for Health (MSH), a global nonprofit organization, has donated essential equipment to Kitgum Technical Institute. The donation, which includes a generator, two air conditioners, nine executive office chairs, three office wardrobes, four aluminum ladders, four laptops, six desktop computers, and a water dispenser, has been warmly welcomed by the institute’s administration.
Kitgum Technical Institute, a government-aided Catholic Church-founded institution established in the 1970s, has a rich history of providing quality technical education to students in the region. With a current enrollment of over 400 students, including 80 female students, the institute continues to play a significant role in technical education in the area.
According to Aldo Kidega, the Principal of Kitgum Technical Institute, the donation came after the institute expressed interest in acquiring office equipment. MSH had advertised the disposal of its office supplies following the closure of its operations in Uganda due to the end of USAID funding earlier this year.
Kidega expressed his gratitude for the generous donation, saying, “This donation has come at the right time, as we were in the process of buying some of these essential items, including the generator and water dispenser.” He is hopeful that the donations will significantly improve the overall learning experience for students.
For example, the generator will provide a reliable power source, as electricity in the district is often unreliable. The air conditioners will ensure a more conducive learning environment, while the laptops and desktop computers will enable students to access digital resources and enhance their computer skills—an essential capability in today’s technology-driven world.
Kidega also noted that the donation would allow the institute to allocate its resources more effectively. “With this donation, we can now focus on other areas that need attention, such as improving our library and expanding our course offerings,” he said-URN.
