The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, has said that corruption is the root cause of poor service delivery.
While presiding over the 3rd national health professionals’ education, training and healthcare conference in Jinja city on Thursday, Janet argued that unprecedented levels of corruption frustrate the minimal possibility of rolling down services to the targeted communities.
The conference was held under the theme of transformed health education and training for better healthcare outcomes and a productive population.
She argues that several projects thrive in the absence of corruption, however, the current state of graft continues to deny communities from fully reaping the resources meant to benefit them.
The Minister urged civil servants to prioritize service extension to humanity as a direct service to God, which will ignite the spirit of selflessness and empower them to meet the community demands with ease.
Museveni raised the need for all educationists to leverage technology as the primary basis for skills advancement in the modern age. She noted that, since time immemorial, Uganda has been the academic powerhouse of the East African region through skills training at Makerere University.
Museveni, however, notes that such achievements were undermined by Idi Amin’s regime in the 1970s, destroying the country’s image.
The First Lady also launched the baseline education census from pre-primary to university, which kicks off on April 7th.
The State Minister in charge of primary education, Moriku Kaducu, hailed tutors in the nursing schools for raising the education standards through investment in research.
Kaducu says that this module of research and information sharing between different players in the health training institutions will result in better learning outcomes and, over time, better healthcare services across the country-URN.
