MoH Rallies Lugbara Cultural Leaders on Malaria Vaccination Campaign

The Ministry of Health has appealed to the cultural leaders in Lugbara Kari to support government efforts in the fight against Malaria. The Ministry is currently on a mobilization and advocacy tour to sensitize leaders and the masses on the new malaria vaccination campaign.

According to records from the Ministry, child mortality due to malaria is still high and 45 percent of the people in West Nile travel beyond five kilometres to access health facilities, putting the lives of children suffering from Malaria at a higher risk of death.

In an engagement with over 100 Lugbara Cultural Leaders at Tropical Suites Hotel in Arua City, Dr. Alfred Driwale, Commissioner for Health Services Ministry of Health, said the new intervention will significantly help reduce child deaths.

Dr. Driwale also called on the Cultural Leaders to desist from rumors but mobilize the people under their leadership to adopt the new technology to fight Malaria.

Edward Kajjoba, the Malaria Vaccine Expert at the Ministry of Health, explained that the new vaccination, which targets children between six to eleven months, is aimed at eliminating Malaria by 2030.

Ismail Tuku, Prime Minister Lugbara Kari, pledged the commitment of the institution to support the government in mobilizing the people to embrace the campaign. Cue in: For malaria…
