The Mukono Police are actively searching for a 38-year-old suspect, Isa Olenge, also known as Isa Gandi, who escaped from custody while receiving treatment at CPR Medical Centre in Mukono Municipality.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Olenge was arrested on February 18, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation in Jinja-Misindye, Nabusungwe, and Zoni, where three notorious criminals, including Olenge, were apprehended.

During the arrest, Olenge attempted to resist and flee, but the officers subdued him, sustaining injuries in the process. He was first taken to Mulago Referral Hospital for treatment before being transferred back to Mukono. After complaining about his health, he was moved to CPR Medical Centre in Mukono for further treatment. Under police supervision and in handcuffs, Olenge managed to escape into the surrounding area.

Onyango has urged the public to report any suspicious individuals, especially anyone who appears injured and is wearing handcuffs. “If you see someone who looks suspicious or is injured and wearing handcuffs, please report them immediately to the nearest police station or local authority,” Onyango appealed.

Olenge, now a fugitive, faces multiple charges, including malicious damage, assault, and theft. Police are also investigating his claims against Capt. Richard Kawanguzi, a man he alleges is a UPDF soldier. Olenge claims that Kawanguzi had threatened him and his associates, warning that those responsible for arresting his gang members would face consequences.

In an interview with this news site, Olenge denied being part of any criminal gang, instead claiming that he was targeted because he reported some gang members who were colluding with police officers.

He also stated that the group has another base in Kisowera, Nama Sub County. His wife, Harriet Nsangi, who shares two children with him, also expressed concern, revealing that after his arrest, their family was harassed, with some of Olenge’s associates allegedly threatening their lives.

As the search for Olenge continues, police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the fugitive. Authorities remain committed to ensuring that justice is served in this ongoing case-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
