I have seen Hon. Betty Nambooze claiming that the Kabaka in a 3-minute chat at the Masaza Cup final asked her to prioritize the youth and their challenges.
With all due respect, that narrative raises more questions than answers.
If indeed the Kabaka gave her such an order which I highly doubt someone well-versed in Buganda’s palace politics knows you don’t rush to the media the next day to reveal everything the King told you in private. That is simply uncultured.
In monarchies the world over, from London to Mengo, discretion is the first test of whether you understand royal culture. Those who truly have access never rush to announce what the King told them.
Palace decorum matters.
Secondly, to suggest that it is during the noise and excitement of a Masaza final that His Majesty would pass such a message to Nambooze is far-fetched. The Kabaka is not that idle.
If there was any serious guidance to be given, it would more logically be about restraining some NUP youths who insult everyone, including the leadership of the Kingdom itself.
Important to note if Hon. Nambooze, the longest-serving MP in Buganda, can only meet the Kabaka for 3 minutes at a Masaza final, that speaks volumes about her distance from Mengo.
Lastly, for BBS, the official Kingdom broadcaster, to rush such an interview as if there are no other pressing Kingdom issues to discuss is disappointing-Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
