Police in Masindi have launched investigations into the suspected electrocution of a woman who was reportedly ironing clothes at her home. The deceased has been identified as Milly Nalwada, a resident of Kirasa Cell in Central Division, Masindi Municipality.
Information obtained by Uganda Radio Network (URN) indicates that Nalwada was ironing clothes on Monday when she reportedly suffered an electric shock. John Ahebwa, a neighbour, said they heard Nalwada screaming for help and rushed to establish what was happening, only to find her lying dead inside her house.
They subsequently alerted police, who responded to the scene. Pensive Tukasiima, the Masindi District Police Commander, confirmed the incident, saying investigations were underway to establish the circumstances surrounding Nalwada’s death.
Tukasiima urged residents to engage qualified and certified electricians when installing or repairing electrical appliances, warning that faulty wiring and poor electrical connections can expose people to serious safety risks.
He said police conveyed the body to Masindi Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination before handing it over to the relatives for burial arrangements. Joselyne Asiimwe, a resident of Kirasa Cell, described Nalwada as a hardworking woman who hawked clothes around Masindi town. Asiimwe added that Nalwada lived alone in her house-URN.
