Seventh-day Adventists under the North Buganda Field have launched a Shs600 million fundraising campaign to construct an operating theatre at Nakyewa Health Facility in Luwero District to improve access to surgical services.
The campaign was launched on Sunday with a fundraising marathon in Luwero Town Council, attracting hundreds of participants who rallied behind the project.
Pastor Frederick Kulaba, the North Buganda Field Treasurer, said the theatre would help address challenges faced by patients who cannot afford surgical services or must travel long distances to access facilities offering specialised care.
He said the project would bring essential surgical services closer to communities, reduce the cost and inconvenience of seeking treatment elsewhere, and help save lives.
Kulaba said the theatre would particularly benefit patients with hernias, people requiring surgery for certain medical conditions and accident victims in need of surgical intervention.
Kulaba appealed to church members, well-wishers and development partners to contribute towards the Shs600 million target, describing the project as a practical expression of Christian compassion and service to humanity.
The initiative forms part of the church’s mission to promote health and improve community welfare through access to essential medical services-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
