Residents of Bukhaweka Sub-county in Namisindwa District have donated five acres of land to the district for the proposed establishment of a government seed secondary school aimed at improving access to education.

Twelve residents from Bubi Kala Parish contributed portions of their land to support the project, which is expected to reduce the distance learners travel to access secondary education. Waraba Tadeo, the Bukhaweka Sub-county LCIII chairperson, said families have been struggling to educate their children because secondary schools are located far from their communities.

He said the nearest government secondary school, Wabwala Secondary School, is about 10 kilometres away, making access to education difficult for learners. Waraba added that the district leadership had expressed interest in supporting efforts to establish a secondary school in the area.

Bwayo Emma, the Namisindwa District LC V chairperson, said the land donation came at an opportune time, as the Ministry of Education and Sports had already written to the district requesting proof of land ownership as part of the process of securing the project.

He thanked the residents who donated land and urged others to support government development projects, noting that the government does not purchase land for such initiatives. Bwayo said the district would submit the required documentation in the hope that the government would approve the project and provide the necessary support.

Meanwhile, Assistant Resident District Commissioner Wolyama Rogers urged residents to remain calm and support the ongoing efforts to secure the school. He cautioned them against individuals he described as brokers who could mislead residents or interfere with the process, adding that the government was willing to listen to their concerns.Namisindwa District currently has eight government-aided secondary schools serving its 29 sub-counties, underscoring the need to expand access to secondary education-URN.
