Three people, including the driver of a truck, have been killed and two others injured after a truck lost control and crashed into pedestrians, vehicles and a motorcycle in Kabwohe Town, Sheema District.
The crash happened on Tuesday evening, October 6, 2026, as the Isuzu truck, registration number UA 234DK, was travelling from Bushenyi towards Mbarara. Preliminary police findings indicate that the driver lost control in Kabwohe, knocked two pedestrians and then crashed into several vehicles and a motorcycle parked along the roadside before coming to rest against a building.
Michael Kananura, the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson, said police were conducting a recovery operation and assessing the scene to establish the full number of casualties. “More details will be provided once the recovery operation is completed and the scene has been fully assessed,” Kananura said.
The vehicles involved included a Toyota Raum, registration number UAV 834R; Toyota Sienta, UA 538EG; Toyota Wish, UBN 195Y; Range Rover, UAP 900L; Toyota Sienta, UA 601DG; Toyota Premio, UAZ 141M; and a UG Boss, UFA 859M. Two injured people were rushed to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the facility’s mortuary for postmortem.
Police have urged motorists to reduce speed when approaching busy trading centres and other built-up areas. The crash occurred along the Mbarara-Ishaka road, with residents also raising concerns about the narrow and reportedly poor condition of the road. Police said investigations into the circumstances of the crash are continuing-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
