The Executive Director of Kapchorwa Civil Society Organisations Alliance (KACSOA), George Kiprotich, has died after a prolonged illness, leaving the civil society fraternity in the Sebei sub-region mourning one of its prominent voices on governance and community development.
Kiprotich died at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya in Kampala on Tuesday night, October 6, 2026, where he had been admitted after his condition deteriorated last week.
His brother, Brian Ndiwa, said Kiprotich was diagnosed with liver complications earlier this year and travelled to India in March for specialised treatment. Ndiwa said Kiprotich returned to Uganda after treatment but continued to receive medical care.
He said Kiprotich’s condition worsened about a week ago, prompting the family to take him to Nsambya Hospital, where he died. His sister, Everline Chemutai, described his death as a major loss to the family and the many people who depended on him.
“We have lost not only our brother, but also a breadwinner. George was supporting many people, including his children and other people who depended on him. His death is therefore a very big loss to our family and to the many people he supported,” Chemutai said.
Kiprotich was actively involved in civil society programmes aimed at strengthening citizen participation in governance, promoting accountability and supporting community-driven development in the Sebei sub-region.
His work brought him into contact with communities, civil society organisations and local government officials on issues including civic participation, local economic development and community empowerment.
Festo Majinjach, the Programmes Director at Sebei Transformation Initiative, said Kiprotich worked closely with communities and local government officials to promote citizen participation in development.
Majinjach recalled that in 2024, Kiprotich led engagements on the Local Economic Development policy in Kapchorwa Municipality, advocating for greater use of locally available resources to support community development.
Kiprotich’s death has left KACSOA and the wider civil society fraternity in the Sebei sub-region without one of its prominent advocates for good governance, accountability and citizen participation. Burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
