The interrogation of the prime suspect in the murder of Afrigo Band legend Moses Matovu is ongoing following his arrest last evening, as detectives sought to establish the circumstances surrounding the musician’s death.
The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Nsamba Vincent, was arrested by a team of Crime Intelligence detectives in Ochieng Ward, Yesu Amala, Nansana Division, Wakiso District, following investigations into the circumstances surrounding Matovu’s death.
Police suspect Nsamba of assaulting Matovu during an altercation involving Rose Tusiime, a woman with whom the musician had spent the night.
According to preliminary findings, Matovu had accompanied Tusiime to her rented room in Market A Zone, Kibuli, at about 4:00 a.m. on Thursday. Shortly after they entered the room, Nsamba allegedly knocked on the door. Police say Tusiime declined to open the door, prompting Nsamba to allegedly attempt to force his way inside. He reportedly smashed a window before retreating and waiting along the road.
At about 5:40 a.m., as Matovu was reportedly being escorted to his vehicle, Nsamba allegedly confronted Tusiime and began assaulting her. Matovu is said to have intervened, at which point Nsamba allegedly punched him.
Matovu fell onto the pavement and sustained a serious head injury. He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said investigations were continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the circumstances that led to Matovu’s death.
Tusiime, who was earlier detained to assist detectives with the investigation, also remained in custody at the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli by press time.
Her detention followed a search of her rental room, which detectives reportedly conducted for more than three hours as they sought evidence linked to the incident.
The ongoing operation and interrogations are being coordinated by senior police officers, including Kampala Metropolitan Police CID Commander Milton Birungi Beigumamu and CID Kampala South Regional Commander Arthur Twiinamatsiko-URN.
