Two people have been confirmed dead after being struck by lightning in Kasese Municipality last evening.
The incident occurred around 4:30 pm during a heavy downpour with intense lightning and thunder.
According to Rwenzori East Region Police Spokesperson, SP Elly Maate, the two victims were struck at the height of the storm. Police has identified them as, Yeremia Baluku, aged 60-years, a nigh watchman and Isaac Kihara.
The Local Council One General Secretary for Nyakatonzi Cell, Sadayo Bwambale reported that the deceased took shelter under a tree at their workplace as the rain started, which is where lightning struck them.
Sadayo advised residents to exercise extra caution during thunderstorms and to avoid sheltering under trees, standing in open fields, or near metallic structures.
SP Elly Maate stated that the police have transported the bodies of the deceased to Kasese Municipal Health Centre III for post-mortem examinations, as investigations are ongoing-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
