Police in Kasese District are investigating the death of 40-year-old night watchman Charles Bwambale Kabaya, whose body was found on Sunday evening in Kanyangeya Cell, Kasese Municipality. Bwambale, a resident of Kidodo Cell in Kasese Central Division, had been on duty at St Mark Railway Church of Uganda when the church was reportedly broken into during the night.
According to police, the burglars stole several items, including a music system and a screen. During the incident, Bwambale reportedly disappeared from his duty post before police arrived at the scene. Police said he later contacted relatives and expressed despair over the burglary, reportedly saying he feared he would be arrested or imprisoned over the stolen property.
His body was later discovered in Kanyangeya Cell, with police noting an odour suspected to be associated with herbicides. Police visited and documented the scene before the body was taken to Kasese Municipal Health Centre mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The examination is expected to help establish the circumstances surrounding his death as investigations continue. ASP Elly Maate, the Rwenzori East Police spokesperson, confirmed that inquiries into the incident are ongoing-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
