The 6-day Karamojong cultural festival has been shifted to Naitakwae grounds in Nadunget Sub-county, Moroto District. The venue was cleared by Mt. Moroto Police following a joint security coordination meeting with Moroto District leaders on Friday.

Initially, the organizers planned to host the event at Boma Grounds in the heart of Moroto Municipality, but the UPDF rejected the idea. The army said it also plans to hold celebrations for President Museveni’s victory in the same week at Boma Grounds.

Police were forced to consider Naitakwae grounds, about 3 kilometers from town, as an alternative. Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto regional police spokesperson, said the venue has been cleared, and a security deployment plan is ready to ensure a peaceful event.

Longole said teams from the Fire and Rescue Services are already conducting firefighting drills and displaying rescue equipment as part of preparations.

“The drills are aimed at showcasing emergency preparedness and response capabilities to ensure the safety of participants, guests and visitors during the week-long cultural celebrations,” Longole said. He said the team is demonstrating the use of fire extinguishers, rescue operations and emergency evacuation procedures.

“We assure the public that comprehensive safety measures are in place for a peaceful and successful event,” Longole added. This is the 11th Edition of the Karamoja Cultural Event. Participants are expected to start reporting on Sunday, 6th Sept 2026.

The event is expected to attract all Ateker communities in Karamoja, Teso and Lango, as well as neighboring countries such as Kenya, South Sudan and Ethiopia-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
