Sheikh Ibrahim Ntanda, First Deputy Supreme Mufti of Kibuli, has condemned the Bunga tragedy in which a mother allegedly murdered her two daughters over uncontrolled anger and urged the public to prioritize mental health and conflict resolution in families.

On Friday, Dorothy Namayo, 43, a Kenyan national, allegedly killed her two children Daizy Khadija 14 and Hawa Dalene, 7 leaving three other children aged 13, 8 and 5 with injuries by stabbing them before she attempted to end her life as well.

The family’s housemaid and neighbors said the murder was triggered when the husband, Ederisa Troe, a Malian national, marrying a second wife in Namasuba along Entebbe Road. They said the decision caused repeated disputes, fights and disagreements in the family.

Speaking at Mulago Mosque on Friday evening, where Janazah prayers were held, before the burial for the duo at Lugogo Cemetery, Sheikh Ibrahim Ntanda said ingratitude to God’s will and blessings is one of the worst traits that leads to hell.

According to him, if the killer mother had accepted God’s decision to allow her husband to marry another wife and start a second family, she would not have butchered her innocent children, who are a blessing from God.

“Allah says if you do not appreciate what I have given you, leave the earth I placed you on and seek another creator,” SHeikh Ntanda said. “Women, know that God allowed men who have the capacity to marry more than one wife. So, if your husband marries another woman, why kill your children? What authority do you have to take a life you did not create?”

According to him, the mother acted out of extreme anger that clouded her judgment, and she is likely regretting her actions now. “Irrational anger is very dangerous,” he preached. “Allah warns us against making decisions out of anger; she killed her children who were precious to her and to this nation in a fit of rage, and she is now regretting it.”

He said that once someone acts in irrational anger that doesn’t match the situation and it gets out of conrol, people they start disowning their angry acts or asking for forgiveness to other people they have committed crimes on or their own relatives.

Suleiman Musoke, a resident of Mulago who attended the prayers, said he does not understand how a sane person could kill her own children and try to kill herself because of jealousy over her husband’s second marriage. He added that investigations may find drug addiction or mental illness played a role.

“Police should do their work and have this woman taken for a mental evaluation,” Suleiman said. “She might be suffering a serious mental disorder or drug addiction. How does a sane person kill her own innocent children? It’s unfortunate. I urge men to be careful with their wives, for had the husband been there, he would have been the first victim.”

One of the family members, Abubakary Boubou Makena, an elder brother to the father of the deceased, said a lot was told to themedia, but the family would make a comment on the tragedy in due course, but they are still mourning the death of their innocent children.

By Friday, detectives from Kabalagala Police Division had reportedly recorded a statement from the suspect, who is receiving treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital, while a statement will also be obtained from the grieving father as investigations continue-URN.
