Police Foil Armed Robbery, Recover Firearm at Gaz Fuel Station in Masindi

The police foiled an attempted robbery and recovered a firearm at Gaz fuel station in Central Division in Masindi district. It is reported that two-armed men raided the fuel station and held a private security guard at gunpoint. The incident occurred on Monday night.

The attackers were reportedly riding on a motorcycle with registration number UGG 592P. Reports from the scene indicate that there was a scuffle between the attackers and the security guard. The security guard is said to have raised an alarm that attracted the attention of area residents who alerted Masindi police.

The police arrested one of the suspects identified as Ronald Odoma, 43, who is being detained at the Central Police Station in Masindi. The other suspect whose identity has not been revealed remains on the run.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson they confiscated a pump-action firearm and the motorcycle. Hakiza applauded the private security guard for his vigilance and bravery in resisting the attackers.

Meanwhile, the police in Kagadi are holding two suspected motorcycle thieves. The suspects are Mark Mugisha and Julius Byakola.

The suspects are accused of stealing a motorcycle registration number UMA 127ML belonging to Sipera Nyiramanzi, a resident of Kakumiro district.  The incident happened on August 9, 2026.

They reportedly connived and stole the motorcycle when it had been parked at Mwitanzige police station in Kakumiro district.

The suspects had already modified the motorcycle by changing its Number plate from UMA 127ML to UGH 360E. They had also removed the tracking system that had been installed on the motorcycle. They had also altered both the engine and the chassis number.

According to Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, the suspects are cooperating well with investigators, adding that once investigations are through, they will be arraigned before the court to be charged accordingly-URN.
