Four suspected armed robbers arrested in connection with a recent violent attack in Entebbe have confessed to participating in a series of aggravated robberies across several parts of Uganda, according to police.
The suspects were initially linked to an armed robbery at Kasenyi Landing Site in Entebbe Municipality, where they allegedly used a motorcycle as their getaway vehicle, a tactic police say they repeatedly employed to evade arrest.
Police say that on Monday night, the four attacked a shop in the Kasenyi-Bendegere area while a truck was offloading goods. The suspects reportedly fired gunshots, held the cashier at gunpoint, and fled with an unspecified amount of cash.
Investigators later established that the same group was responsible for another high-profile robbery on June 1, 2026, at Buyinja Trading Centre in Nkumba. During that attack, three armed men dressed in military-replica uniforms reportedly robbed a distribution company’s sales manager of approximately 24 million Shillings before escaping on a motorcycle.
The investigation gained momentum after forensic experts recovered two spent cartridges from the Kasenyi crime scene. Ballistic analysis linked the cartridges to the same firearm used in at least nine other robberies: five within the Kampala Metropolitan area and four elsewhere in the country, including Jinja in Eastern Uganda and Hoima in the Albertine region.
Acting on intelligence gathered during the investigation, a joint security team led by Kampala Metropolitan South Regional Police Commander SSP Stephen Onecan and Jinja City District Police Commander David Kamugira intercepted the suspects on Thursday in Ngogwe Sub-county, Buikwe District. Police said the suspects were attempting to return to Kampala using the same motorcycle believed to have been used in several previous robberies.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the suspects admitted to carrying out both the Kasenyi and Buyinja robberies and confessed to involvement in several other armed attacks across the Kampala Metropolitan area, Eastern Uganda, and the Albertine region.
Following the arrests, the suspects reportedly led investigators to Ngando Village in Mukono District, where police recovered a rifle and 15 rounds of live ammunition believed to have been used in the robberies.
The four remain in police custody as detectives prepare scene reconstruction exercises and process the suspects for court. Investigations are continuing as security agencies pursue other members of the suspected robbery network who remain at large-URN.
