The Kabale Catholic Diocese has announced that the episcopal ordination and installation of Bishop-elect Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Bosco Katusiime Gubazire will take place on October 3, 2026, at Rushoroza Cathedral.
Rev. Fr. Katusiime was appointed Bishop of Kabale by Pope Leo XIV on July 15, 2026, succeeding Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, whose resignation was accepted by the Pontiff after he attained the canonical retirement age of 75.
Rubaramira, now 76, has led Kabale Diocese since 2003. Following the acceptance of his resignation, Pope Leo XIV appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the diocese until the ordination and installation of his successor.
The date for the episcopal ordination was announced in a statement released on Monday evening by the Bishop’s House and signed by Bishop Rubaramira. He noted that he will continue serving as Apostolic Administrator until the ordination and installation of Bishop-elect Katusiime.
He also appealed to the faithful to support the preparations for the ceremony through prayer and material contributions. “I am requesting that we all join to pray for our Bishop. I am also requesting you and all the faithful to kindly join in both the preparations and the contributions for the ordination ceremonies of our Bishop,” he said.
Currently serving as a member of the Academic Board of Spiritan University College in Ejisu, Ghana, and as Provincial Council Member in charge of ongoing formation for the Missionaries of Africa in the Ghana-Nigeria Province, Bishop-elect Katusiime brings more than two decades of pastoral, academic and missionary experience to his new role.
Born on March 3, 1974, in Karubanda Village, Southern Division, Kabale Municipality, Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Bosco Katusiime Gubazire is the second-born of seven children of Vanansio Gubazire and Solome Baheihahwenki.
He attended St. Mary’s Primary School Rushoroza from 1981 to 1987 before joining St. Paul’s Minor Seminary Rushoroza, where he studied from 1988 to 1994. He entered the Postulancy of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) in 1994.
His academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religious Studies from the Philosophy Centre, Jinja (1997); a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from the Institut Catholique de Toulouse in France (2003); a Master of Arts in Philosophy (Ethics) from the Milltown Institute of Philosophy in Dublin, Ireland (2010); a Diploma in ICT System Support from Andiamo Educational Institutions in Malawi (2013); and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of San Carlos in Cebu, Philippines (2020).
He made his perpetual vows on December 7, 2002, and was ordained a priest on August 10, 2003, at Rushoroza Cathedral Parish. Throughout his priestly ministry, he has served in Mozambique, Malawi, the Philippines and Ghana, holding a range of pastoral, academic and formation responsibilities.
Since 2021, he has been Dean of Studies at Spiritan University College in Ejisu, Ghana. In 2023, he was appointed Rector of St. Martin of Tours Formation House and became a member of the University’s Academic Board.
