A total of 134 Local Council I (LC I) chairperson candidates in Kamwenge District have been declared unopposed ahead of Tuesday’s village elections. The district has 442 villages.
According to the Kamwenge District Returning Officer, George William Magezi, the candidates secured the positions after their opponents withdrew from the race or because they were the only candidates nominated in their respective villages.
Magezi said the Electoral Commission had completed all logistical preparations for the polls, with voting materials already dispatched to their designated polling stations across the district.
He urged candidates, voters and their supporters to comply with electoral laws and maintain peace throughout the election process.
Magezi added that security agencies had been fully briefed, with the Uganda Police deploying mobile and emergency patrol teams to respond swiftly to any incidents and ensure the elections are conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
Kamwenge Resident District Commissioner Africano Aharikundira said security personnel were fully prepared to safeguard the electoral process before, during and after polling.
He called on residents to remain calm and elect leaders who will work closely with government programmes to promote social and economic transformation in their villages-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
