Mbale industrial division MP Karim Masaba has always been considered to be a NUP-leaning politician and even his voters always elected him thinking he was aligned to the Kavule party. That’s why even his campaign posters have always been in red to resemble NUP colors.

Even NUP has been favoring him by deploying him to shadow cabinet and even opposition committees. But on Wednesday afternoon as MPs listened to Dennis Namara’s proposal to amend the law to have the LoP elected by all opposition MPs, Masaba took the microphone and made it clear he is a pure independent who hates both NRM and NUP alike.

Masaba said it was wrong for Namara to say the independents must also take part in electing the LoP because they too have a stake in the opposition since they aren’t on the NRM side. He said he can’t be forced to be part of the opposition decision on who becomes their LoP because he isn’t one of them. Strangely NUP MPs led by Euginia Nasolo clapped their hands in joy as Karim Masaba denied being a political ally of their boss Bobi Wine.

During the same debate Dennis Namara destroyed both Joseph Sewungu and Patrick Nsamba when he accused them of being very ignorant of the law and rules of parliament though they are senior MPs in their 4th term. The two NUP MPs were accusing Namara of bringing his proposal before getting the certificate of financial implications from the ministry of finance.

Thomas Tayebwa told them they are wrong because Namara was just seeking leave to draft his bill and that it wasn’t yet necessary for him to have that certificate at that point in time. Kanyum MP Okwalinga supported Namara’s proposal because it will be used to democratize how one becomes the LoP. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com.
