At this rate former speaker Anita Among will regret the day she was born. All the people she used to look after and pamper using her generous wallet have, it seems, found it wise to abandon her.
Abdul Katuntu the defeated Bugweri county MP is the latest to flee from the sinking ship. At Munyonyo at the beginning of the week, Katuntu told MPs during the induction training that it was time for everyone to embrace Oboth Oboth. He said that the new speaker is a very good man and lawyer who understands parliamentary procedure and rules well.
He said that before becoming the minister of defense Oboth had chaired very important committees such as the one on legal and parliamentary affairs and he did such a fantastic job.
Katuntu said as someone who served under him and with him on powerful committees of parliament, he is convinced that MPs are going to have a good time serving under such a unifier.
He said he will miss the chance to serve under such a good speaker. Katuntu was invited to tell MPs about procedures and rules.
He advised MPs to read widely to become informed and to also put the interests of Uganda first and their parties’ secondary. He said that to deliver for their voters, MPs need to be broad-minded and work with every leader regardless of the party differences.
Katuntu was very closely allied to Anita Among and his decision to publicly embrace Oboth-Oboth clearly shows that he too has finally realized and accepted that the era of Anita Among being powerful is gone and that that chapter is closed.
