The NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi is having sleepless nights after failing to get secretary general Rubongoya and acting president Zedriga to work well together in harmony. The two are now having a serious cold war at Kavule and Joel Ssenyonyi has been trying to reconcile them in vain.
Trouble started when Kyagulanyi resisted pressure from top advisors who wanted him to make Rubongoyathe acting party president in the absence of the principle. Rubongoya it was argued is more eloquent and closer to the foot soldiers and party’s friends or partners in the diaspora than Zedriga.
Kyagulanyi ignored all that and gave the job of acting president to Zedriga because he saw her as more senior and not ambitious to outshine him and steal the show while he is away in exile.
The best person would have been Muwanga Kivumbi the deputy president Buganda but he couldn’t get the job because he is in prison. Kyagulanyi saw that Rubongoya was already too busy and eating enough as the secretary general.
He chose Zedriga but Rubongoya remained unhappy and as of now the two of Rubongoya and Zedriga aren’t working well together. Their differences have created camps at Kavule; officials and foot soldiers have become divided. Some are backing Rubongoya and others Zedriga. Those against Rubongoya were already unhappy that mobilization no longer gets facilitated and many of them were already angry thinking the SG is just refusing to facilitate them yet the party is broke due to IPOD problems.
Some insiders are now fearing that one of these days the two of Rubongoya and Zedriga are going to exchange blows inside NUP offices in Kavule because Zedriga even feels she is being undermined because she is a woman who comes from west Nile.
At party functions she sometimes comes late when all the others have taken their seats and she is angry to see that the secretary general and the big men loyal to him remain seated instead of standing up to show respect to her the way they used to do for Kyagulanyi.
The party president is scared that by the time he comes back to Uganda the world war between Zedriga and secretary general will have torn the party apart. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com.
