On Saturday, Oscar Semweya Musoke moderated the capital gang program on 91.3 capital fm where panelists like Abdul Katuntu, Benjamin Katana, analyst Leonard Egesa and lawyer Edgar Tabaro discussed the changes president Museveni made by making JC Muyingo the acting minister for education and Haruna Kasolo the acting minister at foreign affairs.
The panelists welcomed the promotion of Muyingo saying he has been around long enough and understands the docket of education very well more than anyone else. When it came to Kasolo, many of them said the job was too demanding with Egesa making it clear that the MoFA shoes, previously worn by giants like Sam Kutesa and Jeje Odong, are too big for the Kyotera county MP.
Panelists made it clear to the president that, with Uganda facing many challenges and having many complex things to explain itself about on the global scene, Haruna Kasolo, who can’t properly express himself in the English language, is the worst person to put in such a position. They made it clear the docket requires a knowledgeable senior person who is adaptable and learns very fast which Kasolo isn’t.
The ministry of foreign now needs a very good political leader because its the one the president has put at the fore front of selling Uganda’s image abroad in order to realize the USD500bn grown strategy through attracting foreign investors FDIs and tourists to come to Uganda, through the economic & commercial diplomacy strategy; which is headed by ambassador Richard Kabonero.
The gangsters said the only way Uganda can keep thriving under the current arrangement is by senior technocrats embracing Kasolo and working very hard serving under a minister who is flexible to learn on the job and is a team player and builder which Kasolo isn’t, going by the bad reputation he left behind at the finance ministry where he worked before-and was known for intrigue.
As a way forward, the gangsters advised the president to consider sending there someone very quickly to lead the show at the ministry of foreign affairs before it gets too late or else the very quarrelsome Haruna Kasolo messes up Uganda’s foreign policy and international relations, which will be costly to reset after being messed up.
Abdul Katuntu spoke about the fact that Adonia Ayebare is intelligent and very knowledgeable in diplomacy, which sets out a clear contrast between such a seasoned minister and a very unsophisticated ruling party politician like Haruna Kasolo who staff at the ministry are already uncomfortable with because they see him as not being exposed and polished enough to the level of Kutesa and Odong Jeje.
Kasolo has never been a humble leader who can learn from those who are better than him, which is why he is always feuding with well polished politicians from his home area like the very knowledgeable and eloquent Justine Namere who is also very popular in their home place of greater Masaka. A man who is always very busy prioritizing his many wives and children, Kasolo is also a very insecure politician who can’t have the humility and patience to learn on the job from experienced technocrats at the MoFA.
