Minimise Enemines, Maxmise Friendships: Departing Kigezi RPC to Police Officers

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Alex Wabwire has asked police officers to minimize enemies and maximize friendships if they are to serve society diligently and effectively. Wabwire made the statement on Monday night/Tuesday morning during a farewell ceremony at Cephas Inn Hotel in Kabale District, where he officially handed over office as Kigezi Regional Police Commander (RPC) to SSP Godfrey Ninsiima.Wabwire, who has served as Kigezi RPC for one year, has been transferred to Police Headquarters in Kampala, while Ninsiima joins the region from his previous position as RPC Kampala Metropolitan East.

Wabwire says police officers cannot effectively serve the public without fostering good working relationships with sister security agencies, members of the community, business leaders, political and technical leaders, and the media. According to Wabwire, such relationships can only be built when officers demonstrate professionalism and discipline in the execution of their duties.

Wabwire also revealed that Rukiga District gave him the greatest challenge during his tenure, noting that five District Police Commanders (DPCs) were posted and later transferred from the district within one year due to disciplinary and behavioral concerns.

DPC Rukungiri SSP and Dean of DPCs in the Kigezi Region Brian Ampeire, together with SSP Gilbert Mwebembezi, the Kigezi Regional Police Community Liaison Officer, praised Wabwire for his strategic leadership during the 2026 General Elections, which they say helped the region remain free from election-related violence.

Ampeire says the security situation in Kigezi remains stable, although the region continues to register cases of coffee theft, domestic violence and isolated murders. He adds that the region is currently not experiencing incidents of gun violence. SSP Ninsiima pledged to serve the region diligently and called upon District Police Commanders to support him in executing his responsibilities.
