Bushenyi Councilors Petition High Court Over Conduct Of Council

Police in the East Kyoga Region have arrested four suspects in connection with the death of a football fan in Soroti District. The deceased, identified as Silver Ebegu, was allegedly assaulted by unknown assailants on the night of June 13, 2026, in Gweri Sub-county.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Ebegu had gone to Gweri Trading Centre to watch World Cup matches. At around 3:00 a.m., he left the venue in the company of several individuals. Under circumstances that are still under investigation, he was later found unconscious after a concerned resident raised an alarm. Ebegu was rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.

According to the East Kyoga Regional Police Commander, Ibrahim Saiga, four suspects, whose identities have been withheld, have been arrested to assist with the ongoing investigations. Saiga condemned the incident and urged the public to shun violence that breeds insecurity in the community.

“We strongly condemn acts of violence in the community and urge members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with police as investigations progress. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to report to the nearest police station,” Saiga said-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
