The Police in Kaberamaido District have launched investigations into a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the life of a Soroti SS teacher, along the Soroti–Lira Highway. ‎‎According to Ibrahim Saiga, the Regional Police Commander (RPC) for East Kyoga, the accident occurred on June 3, 2026, at approximately 11:20 a.m in Aoya B Village, Abalang Parish, Oriamo Sub-county.

‎‎The crash involved a Toyota Wish, registration number UBD 512A, driven by Paul Dembi, a resident of Mbale District. The vehicle was reportedly traveling from Soroti towards Lira when it struck a pedal cyclist identified Joseph Angia, a teacher at Soroti Secondary School and a resident of Oriamo Sub-county in Kaberamaido District.‎

‎Angia sustained severe injuries and died instantly at the scene.‎‎Police conveyed the deceased’s body to Kaberamaido Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.‎‎The driver was immediately arrested and is currently in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.‎

‎“We urge all road users to exercise maximum caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and respect the rights of fellow road users, particularly vulnerable groups such as cyclists and pedestrians,” said Saiga.‎ ‎Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing-URN.
