On Saturday Erias Lukwago questioned Yusuf Nsibambi’s commitment as an opposition veteran on grounds that he has never got arrested-not even during the deadly walk to work protests or even Kayunga.
To Lukwago, this simply means either Nsibambi hasn’t been fighting hard enough or has always been a Museveni mole in the opposition.
Lukwago says Nsibambi has never been jailed in Luzira or anywhere in a police cell for even one day yet he claims to have been an opposition diehard for all these years.
Lukwago’s utterances have caused some Ugandans on social media to focus on other politicians who call themselves opposition diehards and commanders yet there is no recent memory of them getting arrested.
These include Ali Mulyanyama the Makindye mayor who Museveni allegedly rings directly for consultations each time the opposition declares protests.
He calls himself a commander under NUP but he is always in hiding. Only appears on radios and TV to crack jokes to excite the kadamas after which he goes to his home to watch TV.
He has been around calling himself opposition longer than even Kizza Besigye. All he does is flatter Kyagulanyi, telling the easily excitable kadamas how good he is.
Another one calling himself opposition but never gets arrested is deal maker Abubaker Kawalya of Rubaga north. He is good at investing in Kavule which guarantees him the NUP meal card to keep his seat so that he lands himself a red passport which can help him travel globally to cut his deals.
Abdul Katuntu has also never been arrested, not in the recent memory. Kawalya is like Mulyanyama very good at flattering Kyagulanyi to excite the kadamas and that’s all.
Lutamaguzi Semakula of Nakaseke has also never been arrested. Not in the recent memory. He only stops at flattering Kyagulanyi on beat fm, other radios and TV shows and he never does anything that can threaten Museveni enough to cause him to be arrested. Sewungu Gonzaga of Kalungu has also been lucky.
He never gets arrested. Not in the recent memory. Denes Sekabira of Katikamu also never gets arrested.
He stops on appearing on media to say a few things which don’t threaten Museveni and this explains why he never gets arrested. Abed Bwanika also doesn’t get arrested because most of his time, he is criticising opposition fellows more than the Museveni group.
Mukasa Mbidde of DP has also not been arrested many times, beyond the save Mabira Forest demonstrations. In walk to work, he kept his safe distance and saw those who took part as spoilers.
Amanya Mushega says he is in opposition but he too has never been arrested. Maybe he is an old man who doesn’t participate in protests.
Miria Matembe also talks too much on Museveni but she has never been jailed for it. Not in the recent memory. She talks a lot but doesn’t participate in street protests.
Nandala Mafabi also doesn’t get arrested many times yet he claims to be a big man in the opposition. The memorable time he was ever arrested was during walk to work and the same applies to Mugisha Muntu.
Former LoPs Winnie Kiiza, Wafula Ogutu and Betty Aol haven’t also been arrested many times. Not in the recent memory. Maybe police respect them because of the title Rt Honourable which they carry. The incoming lord mayor Balimwezo has also rarely been arrested just like his mentor Michael Mabikke Seninde Tutu.
Zahara Luyulika has also not been arrested anywhere in recent memory yet she calls herself a commander of the struggle. She has been calling herself opposition for more than 20 years.
Her good ally Latif Sebaggala who one time was thrown in Kabaka’s lake by security kidnappers has also not been arrested many times. The same applies Faruk Ntege of NUP who is also Nabillah Nagayi’s brother-in-law.
Others include Medard Segona except during Lukwago impeachment, Florence Namayanja, Lulume Bayiga, Moses Kabusu of Kyamuswa, Richard Lumu of Mityana, Hellen Nakimuli of Kalangala, Joyce Bagala and deal maker David Kalwanga who calls himself a commander in Kyagulanyi’s army.
Betty Nambooze, who is currently in hiding and these days fears to attend media talk shows after security complained about her comments on UPDF soldiers being few compared to potential NUP rioters, has also not been arrested in recent memory. The same applies to Luwero MP Brenda Nabukenya and Robert Sekitoleko.
The opposition chief whip JB Nambeshe is another lucky opposition chief who is lucky not to be arrested. All his fellow NUP deputy presidents have had to be arrested in this season but still Nambeshe, who isn’t a trouble maker, has been at large without anyone ever touching him. Not even police summons has been served to him.
Jimmy Akena the UPC president has been calling himself opposition since 2006 when he returned from exile with his late father’s body but he strangely has never been arrested not even once.
He has always been careful to avoid trouble with security forces. He didn’t participate in walk to work, he decampaigned it and branded Besigye a spoiler of the good relationship parties like his UPC were having.
PPP president Saddam Gayira says he has been in opposition to Museveni for 40 years but he is proud of his record.
He says he has never been arrested anywhere. He has also never been summoned by police to record a statement about anything.
Ibrahim Kasozi who the FDC put for lord mayor position has never been arrested not in the recent memory. He isn’t alone from the FDC side.
His bosses like Nabilah Nagayi, Jack Sabiiti the FDC national chairman and Geoffrey Ekanya haven’t been to a police cell in recent memory. John Kikonyogo the FDC spox has also never been arrested. Not in recent memory. Aisha Kabanda the NUP deputy SG has also never been arrested, not in the recent memory.
Gen Moses Bigirwa has also rarely been jailed. Not in recent memory. His common man’s party boss Mubarak Munyagwa has also rarely been arrested for political related causes.
He was in Luzira for his business dealings e.g a land transaction gone bad. Salaam Musumba has also not been arrested many times, not in the recent memory.
Presidential candidates Bulira Frank, Male Mabirizi, Robert Kasibante have also never been arrested. Not in the recent memory even though some of them utter treasonous stuff.
