Police in Napak District are searching for a man, identified as Michael Otyang, who allegedly set his three children on fire following a dispute over food with his wife. The incident occurred on Tuesday night at around 11:00 pm in Lokeru village, Lorengecora sub-county.
According to reports, Otyang returned home that evening and asked his wife, Sharon Lojore, 20, for food. She told him there was none left, as the little they had was given to the children. The disagreement escalated into a fight. Lojore later escaped to her father’s home in a neighboring village.
Otyang allegedly returned, locked the three children in a grass-thatched house, set it on fire, and fled. The deceased are Janet Nadoli, 10, Emmanuel Lokong, 3, and Joan Nakodio, 1. Mike Longole, Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said police are actively hunting for the suspect.
“Neighbors were shocked to wake up in the morning to find the roof of the house burnt down with all the properties inside, including the three children,” Longole said. A police team later visited the scene and found all household items and the children reduced to ashes.
Longole said investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the dispute and urged anyone with information to assist in apprehending the suspect. He also warned the community against taking the law into their own hands and urged cooperation with police to ensure justice.
