The DF boss Mathias Mpuuga says he has never been part of Yusuf Nsibambi’s project to negotiate anything with Museveni.

Mpuuga said on CBS radio that Nsibambi is a liar who a week earlier appeared on radio Buganda and lied how he had been working with several opposition leaders and formations including DF.

Mpuuga said that Nsibambi shamelessly lied about him yet they hadn’t talked in the last five months. He explained he last met Nsibambi as he had breakfast on his Jalia city along Masaka road as he travelled to Nyendo-Mukungwe for his campaigns.

“We didn’t even talk that much. I had stopped over for a cup of tea on my journey and we just greeted generally. You don’t discuss such matters casually and that was the last time we talked. We wished each other well and I continued with my journey,” he said. “If it’s true we were together in that Museveni deal; how come he didn’t come back to brief us on what transpired? You don’t update your allies and partners on radio after such an important meeting?”

Mpuuga advised Nsibambi to just be honest and make it clear that he has done his part and his steam for the struggle has ran out. “That way he can go in peace and get a job from Gen Museveni. Many others have done it. That is what he must do instead of thinking he will go down with everyone else.”

Mpuuga said that as DF, they doubt that anyone can engage Museveni in any serious talks at the moment when he thinks he is at his strongest. He explained that Museveni, like all dictators, respects strength and can only be overwhelmed into talks when faced with a strong political adversary, which Nsibambi isn’t.

He also had no kind words for Kyagulanyi’s decision to hide instead of being available, taking in all the risks that comes with being the chief opposition leader, and guide the struggle instead of abandoning hundreds of the foot soldiers who believed that his protest vote was real and not mere jokes.

He said that as DF, they are not demoralized by failure to get any MP seats but are prepared to carry on demanding for reforms because from the very beginning they knew this will be a marathon and not a relay. He claimed that there was a conspiracy to target and fail all DF candidates, which is why the number of voters who voted in his Masaka was much higher than what happened in all the other cities of Uganda.

He gave the example of others who won in other cities and showed how they won with very few votes compared to what happened in Masaka city. He gave examples of candidates who won in cities and were declared by the EC with much fewer votes than the roughly 10,000 he polled in Masaka.
