Hoima City residents have highlighted several service delivery gaps they want their newly elected leaders to address over the next five years. Among the critical issues are the poor road network in the city’s suburbs, inadequate garbage management, lack of clean water, limited electricity connectivity in some areas, absence of a general hospital, and the need for Health Center IVs at the division level, among others.
These demands underscore challenges in infrastructure, sanitation, and public health, with residents calling for accountability, improved governance, and more transparent responses from city leaders. Wycliffe Tumusiime, a resident of Buswekera Cell in Hoima West Division, says the issue of poor garbage disposal must be addressed immediately, noting that the city is currently disorganized.
Fred Ngabiraaho, a resident of Bujumbura West Cell, explains that city leaders should tackle the problem of poor road network connectivity in the suburbs, emphasizing that most roads become impassable during the rainy season.
Aidat Kemigisa, a resident of Mpaija Cell, says city leaders should advocate for the establishment of a general hospital to ensure residents have access to appropriate health services. She adds that leaders should also focus on road maintenance, improving the quality of education, and establishing clean water sources.
Christopher Mujuni, a resident of Mparo in Hoima East Division, says leaders should advocate for clean water sources, noting that many residents currently share water sources with animals.
Patrick Kajuma adds that leaders should prioritize robust service delivery, focusing on garbage collection, clean water provision, and improvements in the health sector.
Carolyne Tumusiime, a resident of Kibaati Cell in Hoima East Division, says that tackling corruption in various government sectors should also be a priority, with culprits held accountable. Joseph Kasumba, a resident of Busiisi Cell in Hoima West Division, calls on leaders to address drug shortages in health facilities and to upgrade health centers to serve growing populations.
Asinansi Nyakato, Hoima City Woman MP, emphasized the need for teamwork among the newly elected city leaders if the city is to be transformed. She added that she will continue advocating in Parliament for the operationalization of Bunyoro University to enhance quality education in the region.
Ismail Kasule, Hoima West Division Member of Parliament Elect, and Edward Isingoma, Hoima City Mayor Elect, have pledged to ensure that residents receive the services they deserve after assuming office.
