The Police in Nabweru Division, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, have arrested a woman suspected of burning her husband to death.

According to reports, Nanziri tied 75-year-old James Wani up, placed him in a sack, and set him on fire using petrol and old tyres in a garbage bin on Sunday night. Wani was reportedly weak and sickly at the time of the incident.

Nanziri later told friends and neighbours that Wani had been hospitalised in intensive care at Mulago Hospital due to a bad condition.

According to Muhhad Ssemakula, a neighbour and a friend to the deceased, reported that they hadn’t seen Wani for five days, and tensions had been high due to his frequent fights with his wife.

However, it was one of Wani’s young children who revealed to Ssemakula that their mother had killed the father and burned his body in a garbage bin.

“His 10-year-old daughter came to me and told me that the father was burned by the mother on the garbage at night. Her mother tied him up and put him into a sack.” Ssemakula noted.

Kijambo Ali Mubiru, Defence Secretary of Zone 80 in Nabweru, attributed the murder to domestic violence, stating that Wani had previously sought help from local authorities regarding his issues with Nanziri.

According to Kijambo Mubiru, Wani, who was from Mbale district, had planned to raise money and then separate from his wife, Nanziri, before returning to his home.

Residents are calling on the government to increase sensitisation campaigns against domestic violence, expressing shock at the rising number of cases that end in death.

Nanziri is being held at Katoke Police Station-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
