Joint security forces have asked the people of Karamoja to maintain peace during the ongoing party elections.
The forces urged the voters to act responsibly and shun violent actions that may drag the region back to the previous days of insecurity. They anticipated that some politicians had started misleading people by hiring the wrong elements to spoil the hard-earned peace.
Mike Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, said that it is imperative to prioritise peace, unity and integrity in the electoral process.
Longole noted that the progress and stability of the Karamoja sub-region depend on the collective commitment to fair, transparent and democratic elections.
“Elections can be a time of heightened emotions and differing opinions. However, we must maintain peace and tolerance. Let us respect the choices and opinions of others, even when they differ from our own. By doing so, we can ensure that our communities remain stable and cohesive, paving the way for development and progress,” Longole said.
Longole said that the voters have a right to choose leaders who will drive development, promote peace, and address the challenges facing our region.
He urged every eligible citizen to participate in the electoral process, ensuring that their voice is heard and their vote counts.
Longole also urged the public to report any irregularities or concerns about the electoral process to the appropriate authorities and be vigilant to ensure that the process remains fair and transparent.
He called upon the communities to remain vigilant against divisive tactics that seek to undermine the unity and peace.
Longole said that their collective efforts will ensure that Karamoja remains a place of peace and prosperity for all its residents.
“The people of Karamoja have a critical role to play in ensuring that our elections are peaceful, free, and fair. Let us exercise our right to vote, promote peace and tolerance, demand electoral integrity, report concerns, and protect our communities. Together, we can build a brighter future for Karamoja, founded on the principles of democracy, unity, and integrity,” Longole reiterated-URN.
